No, there are a variety of types of Keys. The most common is a pin tumbler lock key which can usually be duplicated unless it has been marked as “Do Not Duplicate”. Other keys such as coded car keys for example usually can only be duplicated by the manufacturer. Contact us to find out if we can help you with your Key Duplication.
Why does my key stick when I am trying to lock or unlock my door?
This could be due to a dirty or frozen (Winter) lock mechanism. It is recommended to clean and lubricate door locks regularly to avoid a failure in the mechanism. It isn’t uncommon for gunk and grime to accumulate over the years and cause sticky locks or in the worst case having to replace the lock. Contact us to get your Door Locks Cleaned and Lubricated!
Why doesn't my door latch properly?
This is usually because the latch bolt doesn’t meet the strike plate properly or they have become misaligned. Usually this can be fixed easily unless there are issues with the door alignment requiring it to be re-positioned.
My whole lock is turning with the key, can it be fixed?
It can happen that the “set screws” become loose or break allowing the lock cylinder to turn freely. In this case tightening or replacing the screws is an option as long as replacement screws are available for the particular lock. Call K-Town Lock and Key to help you with your turning lock cylinder!
My Key broke off in the lock can it be repaired?
We should be able to remove the broken key and once removed the lock should be checked for any damage as well as dirt to ensure its proper functioning.
